At Beckfoot Oakbank our students had brilliant last week of term and start of the new year with lots of exciting things going in and outside of school.
We expect all students to attend every day; so to recognise this 462 students were invited to take part in a Total Wipe-out event as a reward for achieving 100% attendance for the term. All the students (and staff) who took part had fantastic time and really challenged themselves. They had the opportunity to get involved in two activities, which were ‘The Sweeper’ and ‘The Lights-out Interactive Challenge’ -that tested reaction times. It was great to see how much everyone enjoyed the morning and was a great way to reward our students. I am looking forward to seeing how many more students can get 100% attendance over this term.
Also in the last week of term our Science Club competed in the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge 2017 tournament which took place in Bradford. The theme for their project was Hydro Dynamics. Team Oakbank focused on how much water plants actually need to grow, so they looked at producing a kit to grow and eat that conserves water and uses recyclable materials. They contacted local organisation to get some ideas for recipes to go with the kit. The other aspect to the project was to build a robot that could drive forward and drop water and also flush a model toilet. The team all did really well at the competition and they won the robot challenge part of the task. I would like to say a huge congratulation to all the students and staff involved and they will be joining me for a rewards lunch on Friday!
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our school charities on our Non-Uniform and Christmas Jumper day on the last day. The effort made by the whole school was amazing and we managed to raise £635.75 which will be split between Manorlands and Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Next week we are holding a Parents Evenings. This is a vitally important evening for the whole community, you, your children and all their teachers. We need you to attend so that as teachers we can work together with you to ensure your son or daughter become successful at school. You will have received a letter home detailing how to make appointments.
I wish you all a very happy 2018 and look forward to seeing you at the Parents Evening next week.
