MESSAGE TO PARENTS – PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT DUE TO SWINE FLU

If your child develops the symptoms associated with swine flu, it will help school to contain the spread of the infection, and to assist with the day to day operation of school, if parents follow the guidelines outlined below:

  • If your child is going to be absent due to swine flu, follow the normal school procedures in relation to letting school know of the absence;
  • When you contact school regarding the absence, please let us know whether medical attention has been sought, either via NHS Direct or via your GP;
  • Let us know whether a diagnosis of swine flu has definitely been given;
  • Let us know if medication for swine flu has been prescribed.

Please note, that if your child is diagnosed with swine flu, they should not return to school until they are free of all symptoms, and also, if they have been prescribed medication for swine flu, they must have completed the course of medication before they return.

Thank you for following these guidelines – whilst there is no cause for concern at this time, an up-to-the-minute, accurate assessment of the situation will ensure that school can plan appropriately in terms of student and staff absence, should the need arise.
