Heads Blog 9th May 2018

It has been a very busy and exciting couple of weeks in our new school, we are all now settled in and ready for the term ahead. I hope that you have seen the coverage on our website and in the local news of the opening day. There was a fantastic buzz around the entire building as learning began.

Year 11, 12 and 13 are preparing for their exams; some have already started their practical exams in Art and Drama, speaking exams in MFL and final coursework moderation across technology subjects. It is a very demanding time for our students and we are offering lots of support to them to ensure they achieve the very best they can. The period 6 revisions session have started again this week for year 11, they are proving very useful to all students who attend.

In the short time that we have been in our new building we have run two fantastic events. The first was Key Stage 4 Pathways Evening. It was great to see so many parents and students discussing with staff the choices that will shape the next stage of our young peoples' education.

The second event was the incredibly moving talk from Iby Knill, a survivor of the Holocaust. Over 150 students and staff attended the event and listened to Iby's heart rending accounts of the events she experienced as well as her inspirational message of human courage as well as the need for tolerance and respect between people of all backgrounds and beliefs. If you want to hear Iby share her experiences follow this link https://youtu.be/TwxVj-0eR4w to a short documentary by Teeside University about Iby's life.

Thank you to all parents who responded to our survey on the use of our student planner. We are determined to improve the way that we use our planner and apps like classcharts to improve the way that we communicate with you about your child's education. You can find the results of the survey here: http://www.oakbank.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2018/05/planner-survey.pdf

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Beckfoot Upper Heaton on their fantastic Ofsted report. They have been judged as ‘Good’ which is a huge achievement. You can have a look at the report here: https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/ELS/142031

Please take the time to have a look at some of our student’s work that we are showcasing this week. The work is from our achievement centre. sshowcase-may-2018
