There has been a lot of excitement in school this week about our new school, as more students have had the chance to visit it and have a tour. They have all been very impressed and loved all the new facilities, especially the sports centre. They have put together a presentation of the new school which you can see on our website - click here. This presentation has been running in our hall and on our display screens over the last week. It has been great to see students watching excitedly as anticipation of the move grows.
We have also had students starting to discuss and agree their rules for our new school. There will be more news and pictures to come as we countdown to the move. On this note you will have received my letter this week informing you about the additional school closure day on the 17th April to allow a second day to try to unpack the school before the students return on the 18th April.
Some of Year 11 students went to an event called Poetry Live at Leeds Town Hall on Thursday 1st February. The event was designed to help prepare them for GCSE English Literature exam in the summer. The first session was focused on how students might deal with unseen poems in the exam, both how to think about them and how to write for the best possible results. The second session looked at comparing poems, whether they are studied poems or unseen, and how to write most effectively in either situation. All the students had a great day and got interact with some of the poets they are studying including Simon Armitage and Carol Ann Duffy.
This links in with the period 6 sessions we been running over the last couple of weeks for our year 11’s in preparation for their exams. During week one, 288 students attended and this rose to 343 during week two. We have been able to provide an additional 631 hours of learning for the students concerned. I would like to thank all the students who attended and all the staff involved for their time and commitment. There will also be revision sessions during February half term, please look out for the timetable that will be on the website.
I hope you all have great week and half term.
